Here are things that I did in the past week.
Our (my) new favorite eatery.
A friend once introduced us in the class to this eatery that specialized in salad and yogurt. I immediately got excited. I had been looking for a real good place that could offer nice salads. What I miss about living in Singapore is how it was so easy to get a ready-to-eat salad from the local supermarket. Western salads is not really part of our culture here even though we have our own version of salad so called Gado-gado.
So, I asked everyone in the class to try this place out. Like "let's go there tonight after class!"

I had been there twice before the photo was taken. They don't have a big menu to offer. Everything in the menu is quite standard as in there isn't really a specialty that the eatery has uniquely. But salads should be kept simple. They also have mixed fruit with a choice set of yogurt.
Monalisa.
I've been quite interested in Monalisa painting. I thought it'd be nice to have a painting in my room. I've been struggling to find just a good one to hang on my wall. Not thinking about that for a quite long time, we went to Gramedia book store and I saw this 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of Monalisa(!). It wasn't actually what I saw first. I had to go through quite a lot of boring pictures (a big house with flowers and plants, Transformers, anime, classical romantic pictures of a couple) before the kind staff offered me the Monalisa kept in the back of the other rack. It took me half second to nod to agree to wanna buy it.

Oh, SK told me he did the same thing with the same picture of Monalisa for the new year's eve last year. I don't know though if it was also a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
Presentation on New Media affecting organizational structure.
The past week was also kept busy by me reading a quite thick chapter of our handbook. I had my presentation yesterday which went just fine. It was actually a very interesting topic to me to talk about. However, the lecturer for the subject is more of a person who is more into political examples so when he tried helping us with a better explanation after I delivered my presentation I couldn't really relate to his examples. The problem is I'm not into the politics so much. The examples that helped my presentation that I made were more from the technical side since I was talking about new media effects toward communication and information systems (CISs) in an organization.
Let's say how electronic mails as a new media as opposed to the conventional mails or letters affect CISs in a company. The use of e-mail helps with the documentation or archiving system, for example.
Japanese Culture Day.

On Sunday, at where I attend my Japanese lessons, the center held so called Japanese Culture Day. We were told about it last week and that we could bring a couple of friends. So, I brought two friends to the event. We were introduced to the Japanese culture in general but mainly to one of the most common food and local clothing.
We learned how to cook Takoyaki. Let these photos below speak for themselves.

And, here are a couple of photos of us wearing... ummm... I don't remember what they're called! Hahaha. I used to think there was only Kimono but we were introduced to many other similar looking "dresses" whose names didn't stuck in my head for a long time. Haha. My bad.

The Avengers.
After my presentation yesterday, we had one class cancelled. I already had an appointment set after the second class for watching The Avengers. So, going home would not be worth it as I would have had to go out again. I brought two friends out for late lunch, and we stopped for a prayer at the university's mosque.

Ok, The Avengers. Oh, I loved it. No one told me before that the movie was going to be funny so it was quite surprising to me. I did talk with a few friends about the movie and what they thought about it and none of them said anything funny about it. I actually would love to watch it again in 3D. And, I in million years rarely do that!
That's all.
Today's a Christian national holiday. I might go out to see some animals at the animal market. I might. I'll also definitely start doing my Monalisa puzzle(!) Exciting (or, boring?). I've actually done a thousand piece puzzle before when in Papua with the housemates back in 2008. It took us a few days to finish because we were doing it not intensively. It was fun. I've always liked puzzles, board games (Sudoku is my most favorite game!), word games, and such.
You have a great long weekend!
Wish me luck for everything that's good! :D
I'm wishing you luck back.

I don't remember when is the last time I went to the cinema for a movie. I think the last movie I watched was Twilight. Would love to watch The Avengers.
ReplyDeleteYou should! It's funny and fun to watch. :D
DeleteHey DIT! Long time no see. In fact, it's been a while since I met you................9 years ago? Dang, time flies like blink of an eye.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, I like the new look of your blog / site. Just got here by coincidence and read your story while browsing my homework (which doesn't make sense at all - ____-''). OK, the point is I wanted to give a comment, or maybe even asking you a silly question that kinda bothers me for quite some time after I watched The Avenger. I thought that maybe you will have different opinion that hopefully can make my sleep more enjoyable. - problems of becoming movie fanatic.
Here is the idea. Overall, I like this movie, as expected from marvels to create such action movie with a complete package of superhero. Same director that made Toy Story became part of best 250 movies of all time. Brillian.
However, I somehow found small "weirdness" within the movie itself which disturb me afterwards. Remember that Bruce Banner from last movie ( The Incredible Hulk, 2008, Edward Norton) - at the end, Bruce Banner was finally able to manage his anger and control the Hulk. OK, now if we go back to The Avenger, remember the accident happened at Helicarrier triggered by Loki spear? He turned into Hulk and tried to tear Black Widow apart insanely and even fought Thor brutally.
Let's skip the movie until the scene where Bruce Banner came with motorbike and try to help others. I still remember what he said to Capt. America before he became Hulk and crushed the giant flying alien that looks like a cute worm to me:
" That's my secret, Capt. I'm always angry".
And since then Hulk was able to control himself and help friends to defeat the villain. Having said that, I think you can see now where am I heading right? So my simple question would be this:
How on God's green earth is that even possible - If Bruce was supposed to be able to direct his anger, why was he out of control on Helicarrier scene?
Do you have any idea bud? Help me please. This has been frustrating me too much :D
HAHAHA which is why we are brothers!! I was still in the theater when I asked exactly the same question to my friend! "Wait up, Hulk was trying to kill his team partners (Black Widow and Thor) at one scene but then he could manage his anger in a later scene? That doesn't make sense."
DeleteWe actually discussed another strange thing about Hulk. Remember when he showed up on an old bike after the gate was open and all the monsters came in through the gate? How do you think he could :
1. manage to get to the spot where all the other heroes gathered from an unknown old warehouse located nowhere? How did he locate them?
2. manage to get through all the monsters and destruction, flying debris, and all the stuff without getting hurt or stuck riding such an old rusty bike?
The solution to your headache is, it's a typical American movie offering a high level of imagination. You walk in to a movie knowing you're about to watch an American superhero movie, be a kid. Just be a kid during the movie. It always works!
And, yes we haven't met that long! Hahaha. Be sure you'll be back to Indo soon.
omg i wish i can learn how to make takoyaki too!:)that's a good class

DeleteThe Hulk was my favorite in that movie. His part made me laugh. :-) I enjoyed seeing your pictures. Sounds like you've been really busy. Good luck with the jigsaw puzzle. 1,000 pieces sounds like a lot to me! :)
ReplyDeleteHehehe Iron Man also cracked me up! :D
DeleteThanks for the wish! I'll post an update when I'm done with the puzzle
wow i love your new blog template! so much neater and better than b4! :D
ReplyDeletehaha i dont hv the patience for that jigsaw puzzle! kill me pls! but kudos to you for taking up this challenge!
what a lovely mosque! i love mosques with an architecture that reflect the local climate and culture (like the javanese roof) than those blatantly imported from the middle east, which is so common here. urghhhh. haha!
Thanks both for the compliment and wish of luck! :D
DeleteMost mosques here are like that actually ...
I believe what you are wearing is a yukata, a sort of unisexual kimono? (I could be wrong.) Devil and I wore them when we stayed at traditional Japanese guesthouses; in some, you can even wear them to the dinner table! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Nice new blog design - been busy and not catching up on blog reading of late.
Oh yes! Yukata is one of the dresses we were introduced to! That one I'm wearing in the photos is normally worn by street food vendors selling Takoyaki! Hahah
DeleteThanks for the compliment on the design! :D
