In this particular post I'm going to talk about our journey before we reached Semarang. BTW, Semarang is about 3 hours from where we live -by car.
We left at 9. I didn't have breakfast yet. No, wait, I guess, I did. A bit of milk. The reason for no proper breakfast was because we were planning on getting brunch at this restaurant that my (other) brother was so excited to show us. Apparently, it impressed him a lot!
The journey to the restaurant took a couple of hours. It wasn't really the distance but some roads were closed due to renovation so we had to take the alternative roads. The problem was we had never really taken them before! The GPS, obviously(!), didn't know about the renovated roads. We had to ask people around.
I took some photos of what the journey to finding the restaurant was mostly about, and here's one.Long story short, we found the restaurant -called Progosari. It is (hopefully it hasn't moved!) located very near the famous Borobudur temple, in the district of Magelang. But, since we've been to the temple quite often, we weren't interested in stopping by. Our stomachs were more 'interesting'.
A little bit about the restaurant: it had a similar idea to Rumah Makan Timbul Roso (click here for my experience in the restaurant). Progosari restaurant offers a nature theme with lots of healthy looking plants and trees, and also ponds with living fish. If I had to choose which of the two restaurants (Progosari and Timbul Roso) I would like to go back to, my most definite answer would be Progosari. Food was much better, so was the ambiance. Everything was more organized, clean, refreshing, and also fun (you will understand why in a few secs). Progosari offers mostly fish and avian in the menu. Price was so cheap! We even thought it was too cheap!
For evidence, here are some captioned photos (all taken using my phone) of the place:
One of the long huts that the restaurant had to offer.
Same hut, slightly different angle.
Check that out! The small park in between the huts was clean and felt under very good maintenance.
Stone path to another hut in the back of the restaurant area.
Some more plants.
Smaller huts. We actually ate at the opposite of these. So, the huts were right above a big pond of fish. Right next to these was rice or padi fields.
Oh, my favorite part! This is the view right behind the restaurant. No fence.Ay-May-Zing
And... here is Rad time. Peace! I didn't wanna get bored waiting for our orders by doing nothing and not enjoying whatever was there in the area!
Like, I said, peace! I was taking a poo... not. I know, what an awkward position ('-_-)
Hold on to the tree!... how classy!
The area also had these rainbow swings.More fun parts...
On a different type of swing, I pretended like I was in a roller coaster(!) Hope it looks like I really was!
Whoaaaaaa....
Woooooooo...
Weeeeee........
Mum with her proud son at the entrance.Super full stomached, we continued our journey. On the way, my nephew needed to empty his urgent bladder. We had to stop, like, immediately, because he's known to pee his pants. For a sample story click here.
Obviously... I took advantage of the moment to get out of the car to take a couple of photos of me with a beautiful, soothing view in the background.
Zoomed in! Dayum! I can look pretty kool, too! Bahahaha... :p *mouth shut*Tick... tock... tick... tock... (^_^)
Time was coffee time. The driver which was my very own brother needed to stop for coffee. We also needed to stop for the midday "Zuhr" prayer.
Banaran 9 Coffee and Tea. Where we had our coffees. Quite expensive but worth the price. Oh, well, it was like the only trustworthy looking coffee shop/restaurant. This place is located in Banaran area hence the name.
And, here is a sample photo of the view that we mostly had during the journey toward Semarang city. I absolutely never get bored of such views! I mean, like... I was so excited to get out of the car when my nephew took a pee, d'uh! :DOh oh, our last stop was for these spiked boobies!
5 seconds of ouch!! Not only durians are spiky but also *very, very* spiky! :p...
Episode 2 of the series will be about what we did in Semarang on our first day alone which should be up in a couple of days. I need to catch up on work! :[

You have a cool & wacky family, it looks like! Very fun shots! But wait, so no photographs of the food at the restaurant eh? It's interesting to see so much greenery everywhere with no tall buildings and traffic to mar the landscape. So different of course from the sometimes-stifling, car-crazy concrete jungle of KL :D
ReplyDeleteHahah I do have the photos of the food! But, really, they're really boring. Mostly grilled fishes. :))
ReplyDeleteYes, we happen to like these sort of places to eat. Javanese culture in running richly in our blood when it comes to food hahah :p
Like I've said to you, I do also enjoy cities or countries like Singapore for the tall buildings and malls and conveniently AC-ed food places. :D
aaaahhh...
ReplyDeletei want that durians....
give me some.
Hehe... it's the fruit season so it should be easy for you to get them nearby where you live -although I don't know where you live haha :p :p
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! :D
hey, that greenish background is really nice, no wonder you wanted to sneak out and take a nice photo of it.. hmmm, i like that, so fresh and so relaxing when looking at it.. :)
ReplyDeleteWell I guess I need to thank my nephew for needing to pee at a very right timing and place :))))
ReplyDeletenice place! never been there though. loved the paddy fields. the only building i know in semarang is the domed church built by the dutch. :D
ReplyDeleteOh! Next time I should visit the church! :D
