The Royal Wedding of Keraton Yogyakarta

Today was the wedding day of the Prince and Princess of the province of Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta has its own kingdom called Keraton run by the king called Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono (current king: Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X). The princess is the youngest daughter of the king. The ceremony was unbelievably insane! Almost the entire population of Yogyakarta gathered along the famous street of Malioboro where the Prince and Princess passed to wave to the citizens. And, I was one of the citizens waving back to them!! Hahaha I was so excited! I waved as if they saw me and waved at me!

I wasn't alone but with my parents and sister.

We left at 2PM and got back home at 6PM. It was super duper crowded. I could hardly move at some points because of the crowd wanting to stand as close as they could be to the main road where the Prince and Princess would pass by.

The crowd!! You can't see the road!

Everybody everywhere just to see a better view

There were soldiers before and after the couple passed by.

First group of soldiers in red

We thought the couple would go out at 3.30PM but turned out to be at 5PM. So, I almost wanted to go home already because I was basically too tired from standing for too long waiting. I moved around. First, I stood by the street so I could see people gathering in the middle of the street. I then moved to the center of the crowd and that was when I could hardly move. I knew I had to keep my one hand holding my wallet while the other hand holding my camera.

Me trying to survive! It felt like I was getting raped from every direction! Hahaha! Well, not really.

I'm actually too tired right now to explain everything plus I have some work left to do for today -arghhhhh!!. I might add more information later tomorrow or after I'm done with work later tonight. For now, I'm just letting the photos speak for themselves.

The couple in the cart! That guy in red was the cart driver! Can you see the face of the Prince wearing a rather tall hat waving just under the cart's umbrella? And, I actually yelled, "Stand up!". Some people repeated me but the couple didn't do as I said. Hehe!

Nooooo!!! I could have gotten a slightly clearer photo of the Prince waving if my *dad*'s hand was not covering the view!!! Yes, that's my dad in his checkered shirt and black hat also yelling, "stand up!"

I'm just so glad that I actually saw the Prince and Princess even though I couldn't get a very clear photo of them with my camera -darn it!. I'm glad because they have been on TV lately talking about their wedding. It felt like meeting real celebrities! Yes, I'm lame like that! :)) No, I'm not lame. I'm proud to have witnessed a history!

Thanks, mom, for having encouraged us (with slight force) to wanna see the event! It was too hot today and I almost changed my mind to just wanna stay at home.

With mom

BTW, the President of Indonesia was there too... but, nobody seemed to care because he was in one of the cars. We all basically left for home after the couple went by and did the wave.

More footages:

Superman!

A photographer brought a ladder from home so he could get a better view. How devoted!

Tired, having a seat in a police car. How criminal is that?! LOL

"I wanna see. I wanna see"

Dumb person... hahaha

How will your filled film house the apparent clause?

  1. I tried, by all means, yesterday, not to get any closer to that holy, sacred street because I know just how crowded it would be there, and there you are! Standing in the crowd :)) oh well.. you're such a .. what do they call it... lol... crowd lover! xD

anyway, why can't I see the couple in your photooo!!! I mean, they're the main couple, why I can see only you? And some random people behind you (LOL, the "I wanna see" that was funny).

and that "Dumb Person" is my favorite out of the bunch, mind me.. heh-heh :P

  2. Hahaha, yes, Tiara, I was one of the chaos makers!... or, history makers, to be more correct.

It was all fun! Nobody was hurt apart from some small kids and babies crying.

I like the "I wanna see" photo, too! :D
