Please, survive!

Today is Friday. So, as usual, around midday time, I went to the mosque for a Friday prayer. As I was walking out the house and closing the gate I heard a sound of a crying bird chick. Actually, I immediately knew what bird it was going to be. Well, we've had these water birds that live in the bamboo trees for years now, and almost every time the eggs hatch the bird chicks would be found on the ground. We don't know if that's supposed to happen naturally, or the birds just often fall off the nest. We never know what to do to the fallen birds, and they always end up dead.

This time I found the crying bird in a big flower pot that my dad put outside a few days ago. I was wondering why she was alone because normally there would be three or four other chicks. I looked around and found two dead birds not far from where the surviving bird was crying.

I took the chick and put it in a basket, and left for the mosque. After the prayer, I checked that the bird was still in the basket. At that time, I decided to look after her. At least, I wouldn't leave her to die alone.

I took a small flower pot and a few tissues to prepare a bed for the bird. I brought her in my room and put her bed with her in it under a lamp just to keep her warm as if she was in her real nest with her mother.

She kept crying. I guessed she was hungry.

I didn't know what to feed her. The first thing that came to my mind was worm. But, it's difficult to find worm around my house. And, there has not been rain still.

I decided to feed her cooked rice. Just a tiny bit. She didn't refuse, or was too weak to refuse(?) :(

Since I knew that it was a water bird, I thought about giving her a water pool. And, she was happy! I could tell! She bent her neck down to reach the water and drank it. She did it many times. Perhaps, she was just thirsty.

Her drinking

After I noticed that she was either bored or full, I put her back in her bed.

You may think that she's not going to be a very interesting looking bird judging from the color of her fur which is plain black, but, I've seen the mature birds in person and they have colorful fur.

I hope she can survive so I have a playmate in my room while working! :D

*fingers-crossed*

And, by the way, I have prepared a name for her :p
