Learning to Read

I am such a noob in the world of Javascript. Reading the complex language is very struggling. The picture below is a simple example of Javascript language that is written to present a drop down menu. To me it is as complex as it looks. I find it difficult to read it -for example, the circled line.
Just how on Earth should you read that? Note: I know it must sound like a stupid joke for you who are very good at Javascripting, but, once again, I am a noob so bear with it, OK? Can you help me, Javascripters or, maybe, Javascriptians?

Yesterday was our fourth and last Javascript class, unfortunately. Tomorrow we will start to learn PHP. Hummm... I hope I can follow the lessons and actually be excellent at it.

Nini!
